ENGLISH Premier League giants Chelsea have recalled Nigerian-born goalkeeper Prince Adegoke from Stoke City where he was undergoing trials with a view to a transfer to the Championship club.

Originally signed as an U13 youth academy product, Adegoke, 18, came through the ranks at Chelsea and signed his first professional contract with the club last year upon turning 17.

Already well known to the Nigerian Football Federation, Adegoke was invited to the Golden Eaglets camp in 2019.

At the start of the current campaign, Chelsea sent him out on a loan to National League South club Welling United for the duration of the 2022/23 season. Last season, Adegoke was invited to train with Chelsea's first team goalkeepers but did not  receive a call-up for a senior game and just this month, he began having trials with Stoke City.

Adegoke was forced to cut short his trial with Stoke City due to fitness issues, after complaining that he was feeling pains in his chest. He returned to Chelsea's training ground at Cobham for further tests and the good news is that the medics confirmed that it was nothing serious after the checks were carried out.

After being given the all clear, Adegoke has been given the green light to resume full training with Chelsea's development squad.  Chelsea U21s face the first team of League Two club Leyton Orient in their final group game of the Papa Johns Trophy tonight but it is not yet clear of he will be in the squad.
