FORMER Ogun State governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel has kicked off his ward-to-ward campaign tour  as the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ogun East Senatorial District.

Ignoring the instructions of the APC chairman in Ogun State Yemi Sanusi, who had asked all APC candidates to wait for further directives from the party before kicking-off their campaigns, Otunba Daniel has hit the road.

Already, the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) has authorised all presidential and national assembly candidates to start their campaigns with effect from September 28.

However,  on October 2, Mr Sanusi barred candidates in Ogun State from starting their campaigns, saying the party wants to align its programmes with the national timetable. He added that the Ogun State chapter of the party is in the process of constituting its campaign committee.

According to Mr Sanusi, this campaign committee would liaise with the APC national headquarters, the presidential campaign council and the governor before drawing a campaign timetable for Ogun State. However, the party is yet to give any further directive in over two weeks ago,  since he gave that order, leaving the campaign stagnant.

As a result, yesterday, Otunba Daniel began his campaign tour, starting from Ijebu North East Local Government Area with 10 wards. While on the campaign trail, he noted that Nigeria was well endowed with abundant human and material resources but required good leaders to fulfil the dreams of its founding fathers.
